There are many reasons people volunteer, including giving something back to the community, learning new skills and gaining knowledge of local history. You can make friends and feel part of the Insole Court family, get involved in new challenges and gain a sense of achievement.

We have a whole host of exciting opportunities for our Volunteers to get involved with:

Gift Shop: Weekly or Fortnightly, 10am-1pm or 1pm-4pm

This is the first point of contact for a visit to Insole Court. In the Visitor Centre you would help by taking telephone calls, guiding visitors to the right part of the site, showing people around our hire spaces and selling goods in our shop.

House: Weekly or Fortnightly, 10am-1pm or 1pm-4pm

There is far more of an emphasis on history for those interested in volunteering in our house, itself. Here you’d be welcoming visitors to the house, signposting them to the beautiful rooms available to viewand facilitating the ‘This House is a Stage’ exhibition.
We are also keen to welcome new tour guides who will lead guided tours in the house.
Dress code: Smart/casual, with sensible footwear.

Garden: Drop-in Wednesdays 10am-1pm

We work closely with Cardiff Council to maintain our gardens to the best standards. Our Gardening Volunteers currently work on a project-by-project basis coordinated by our Site Support officer.

One-Off/Events/Weddings We have a list of Volunteers who aren’t able to commit weekly or fortnightly. These Volunteers are called on for all of our special events when we need a group of friends and supporters.

By applying to volunteer at Insole Court you undoubtedly share our passion for its heritage, community space and gardens.
We hope you will feel a sense of pride at being a part of an enthusiastic team and go on to create strong and lasting friendships with other Volunteers and staff.

In addition you can expect the following benefits:

  • social events and behind the scenes previews
  • discount in gift shops
  • reward scheme/gifts
  • practical work experience, where possible
  • relevant job references
  • Review/feedback for Duke of Edinburgh, Welsh Baccalaureate etc.

If you feel that you could help us, be it regularly or only once every 6 months, we’d love to have you on board.
