Carole Strachan – Chief Executive of Music Theatre Wales – hasn’t completely escaped her day job in writing her new book. Set in the emotionally-charged world of opera, A Song of Thyme and Willow explores whether it’s possible to hold on to what is constant within us when the things that define us are changed or lost.

When singer Alice Wade inherits her godmother’s house, she discovers a mystery amongst its dusty old books and fading keepsakes about a woman who once lived there — Isabel Grey, an opera star who vanished almost forty years earlier. Haunted by the parallels between her own life and the missing singer’s, Alice digs deeper.

A story of love and loss emerges, with a finale that leaves no one involved in the search for Isabel Grey unchanged.

Carole will be talking to the well-known broadcaster Nicola Heywood Thomas about the book, reading excerpts, and will also be happy to answer questions from the audience. There will be copies of the book available to buy at a special introductory price (cash only).

This is Carole’s second novel. Her first, The Truth in Masquerade, was published by Cinnamon to enthusiastic reviews in 2016.
