Joan Baker, Painter and Gardener — Talk

When: 2.30pm 28th September 2019

Prior to the auction of Joan's paintings there will be a talk on her life and work.

A collection of her oil paintings have been generously bequeathed to Insole Court and will be auctioned in order to fund raise for the gardens. Prior to this we have a Colour-Mixing Workshop and a talk on Joan Baker's life.

From an early age Joan Baker knew she wanted to be ‘a painter who gardened or a gardener who painted’. Her quiet, reflective work gives us an insight into her personal connection with the landscape. Through her creative routine and habitual interpretation of the landscapes and coastline of south Wales she produced a substantial body of work over a seventy year career.

‘I always choose to work from direct experience and personal observation trying to realise the ground beneath my feet and the sky above my head and all that happens in between; this I find absorbs me entirely.’

Join us for a pre-auction talk with Ceri Thomas to learn about Joan Baker’s life, work and passions.

The Auction of Joan Baker's work in the gallery will take place at 3.30pm following this talk.

Auctioneer – Dan Clayton-Jones, Chair of Insole Court Trust.

Reserve price £100. All proceeds to Insole Court Trust

Paintings can be taken on the day.
